I think the notice and focus method we used in class to analyze Starry Night helps the audience easily understand further into the piece and allows an easier path into the details and message of the painting. When I was analyzing the painting at first, I immediately focused on the most prominent details. This blocked my perception of the piece as whole and instead made me base my alleged view of the piece on just isolated details. The method allows connection between details and technique, to in turn give a unified view of the entire piece. Also, the method allows the audience to also analyze in small parts at a time, so it makes it easier and simpler to think about the piece and finalize one's thoughts.
This method could not only help in analyzing artwork but also text such as essays and books. It allows a different kind of thinking process which organizes your thoughts and eases confusion of what you are trying to say. In essays, I always had problems with overanalyzing details without actually trying to spread a whole message. My essays would end up flat and end up not serving its original purpose. I hope this new method will help me produce a unified whole piece instead of descriptions of evidence and details. Im excited where this method takes me :)
